Microsoft Word and Publisher

These programs are not intended to be used for high-end offset printing applications. There can be problems with placed graphics not printing properly or spaces appearing randomly in the middle of words. Most printers and service bureaus won't accept jobs done in these applications. We will take the job and have had very good sucess, but we can't promise it will work. If we can get a good postscript file from it, there's no problem. However, if one of the issues described above occurs, there is no way to fix it. Therefore, it is strongly suggested that a real desktop publishing application such as InDesign or QuarkXpress be used.

Transparencies & Shadows in InDesign

Several problems can occur from the misuse of these new effects offered by InDesign.  These effects are really only meant to be used on process color jobs, so please be ready for nasty phone calls from your printer if you send them a file containing duotones with any effects applied to them.  We know a few tricks and can get the printer a file they can work with if you find yourself in this situation. Make sure all text and vector-based objects are above the elements you are applying these effects to, otherwise they will be rastered along with the photos and background.  When printing or writing a postscript file, make sure "Overprint Preview" is selected.  You will also need to make sure your transparency flattening settings are set to highest quality.
